Some time ago, Ela, an experienced clothing technologist, joined our team. Every day, she surprises us with her knowledge of clothing construction, materials and their properties, and everyday care tips. We decided to put this knowledge to use and ask her how to care for clothes, including home remedies for stains and clothing care. Today, we're sharing a post filled with useful tips and tricks!
Vinegar - not only in the kitchen!
Did you know that vinegar's uses don't end in the kitchen? Yes, it's definitely worth exploring for cleaning and clothing care. Simply dilute it with water in a 1:1 ratio and you'll create a vinegar fabric softener . Some people also add a few drops of essential oils to the mixture. This method makes clothes exceptionally soft and odor-free, and it also descales your washing machine. Don't worry, the vinegar smell doesn't linger after washing. Plus, vinegar also preserves fabric colors . Nothing but benefits.
The versatility of salt
Salt is a must-have in every kitchen, but it also helps tame stubborn stains . For stubborn red wine stains, it's perfect. Simply sprinkle generously on the stain, wait for the fabric to absorb it, and then gently rub in. Afterward, you can put the garment in the washing machine and enjoy it as good as new. Sprinkle the stain generously with salt and wait for it to absorb the stain.
A patent for ironing while traveling
You probably know how easily things wrinkle when traveling... In case you don't have access to an iron during your vacation (you can always ask your hotel for one; most places have them readily available), you can skip folding your belongings when packing and simply... roll them up. Once you arrive, simply remove them from your suitcase and hang them on hangers, and they'll remain neat and wrinkle-free.
Another great idea is to hang clothes on hangers in the bathroom . The steam from the bath has a great "ironing" effect and is also great for refreshing woolen items that don't need washing as often.

The pen method
I'm sure there are plenty of people here who have "showed off" their favorite T-shirt and thus written it off. But there's a solution for that too. The solution is: hairspray . Simply place a paper towel under the stained garment and generously spray the stain with hairspray. Afterward, gently wipe the ink off with a clean cloth and add more hairspray if necessary. It should help—no thanks.
Is it possible to save a shrunk sweater?
Wool sweaters, which we all love in winter, are very sensitive to high temperatures and can shrink significantly if washed carelessly. How can I save a shrunk sweater? Is there a way to recover from a shrunk sweater? Here are some ways to slightly increase its size. We recommend pouring hair conditioner into a bowl of cold water (previously diluted in warm water) and placing the shrunk sweater inside. Leave it in the mixture for about 15 minutes. After that, rinse it and very gently try stretching it by hand. Remember to dry wool only flat – the sweater should expand slightly after the process. An alternative method, said to be used by our grandmothers, is to rinse it in milk. It's recommended to leave the sweater in the mixture for a little longer.
Let us know in the comments if you haven't heard of any of these tricks before! If you have your own, foolproof clothing hacks, please share them . We're always open to new knowledge to test. We also invite you to read our post, where we reveal how to wash sweaters to maintain their quality.
