In today's world, where diversity and openness are becoming increasingly valued, it's crucial that the fashion industry embraces size inclusivity. Each of us is unique, and our bodies are different. Therefore, it's crucial for us to develop new clothing sizes at ANSIN as much as possible, as production allows. In this article, we'll explore how clothing sizes are created, as well as the steps and challenges involved in the journey from concept to finished product.

Needs analysis - the first step to starting work

The process of creating clothing sizes begins with in-depth research and market analysis. A clothing brand must understand the needs and preferences of its target audience. This includes collecting demographic data, analyzing fashion trends, and researching preferences for sizes and styles. Many clothing manufacturers also use size charts to help determine standard body measurements for different age groups and genders.

Model design

After collecting data and analyzing the market, the next step is designing a specific model. The design team creates a first concept for the new garment, using supporting drawings and detailed descriptions. They begin with a base size (in our brand, this is size S). Initial prototypes are sewn from this base size, and after fittings, adjustments are made. At this point, sizing options also begin to be considered. Whether the model will retain its form and intended appearance depending on the size adjustments.

Material selection is also an important aspect of this process. The fabric or knit should be chosen appropriately, depending on the intended use of the garment and the function it will serve. Material selection also significantly impacts garment sizing. Flexible and stretchy fabrics allow for greater flexibility in adapting garments to different body sizes. This means that one garment may be suitable for both S and L sizes. However, with stiffer fabrics, it may be necessary to develop different garment versions for different sizes to ensure an optimal fit. You can see this difference in our brand – some styles are produced in sizes from XXS to even 4XL, while others are available in inter-size sizes: XXS/XS, S/M, and L/XL.

Testing

Once the designs are finalized, the garments are tested on different body types to see how well they fit. During these fittings, feedback is gathered and later incorporated into the design adjustment process. This aspect also strongly influences sizing decisions.

Based on feedback gathered during fittings, the design team makes adjustments and improvements. This often requires multiple prototype iterations to achieve the optimal fit for different sizes. This process can be time-consuming, but it's crucial to ensuring the final products are comfortable and fit well. As part of these tests, we often share our findings with you on our social media and in our newsletter.

Final decisions

After such advanced testing and gathering sufficient feedback, production can begin. Further templates are created, tailored to specific sizes, and dimension tables for the finished product are compiled, along with detailed information about the model. At this point, care is taken to ensure that the final products meet the quality and dimensional accuracy specifications.

Full size in our brand

At ANSIN, we strive to make our clothing available in a wide range of sizes, from the smallest to the largest. We understand that not everyone fits standard sizes, so we make every effort to also offer plus-size clothing, in those styles where it's technologically and production-wise possible. Creating extreme sizes—both the smallest and largest—often presents technical challenges.

For the smallest sizes, the challenge is maintaining the proportions and details that are characteristic of a given collection . Sometimes even minimal changes require rethinking the entire garment's construction to maintain visual and aesthetic cohesion.

Creating plus-size garments also presents challenges. Different body proportions may require different approaches to construction and material selection to ensure proper fit and comfort. This can result in increased time and cost, which must be factored into the production process.

Customer feedback and continuous improvement of our activities

The final, yet crucial, step for us is collecting customer feedback on size and clothing quality. We strive to incorporate all suggestions and requests into future collections, as well as those already available. We believe that continuous improvement and responding to customer needs is key to maintaining the highest quality of clothing. Over the past year, we've implemented many changes in this way. At the request of our customers, we've been working for several months to create additional plus-size sizes in our brand. This means that this season, we'll welcome three of our models in sizes 3XL and 4XL. Be sure to follow us on our Facebook group to be the first to know!

As you can see, the process of creating sizing for a given model can be a labor-intensive task. It involves numerous tests, several or a dozen prototypes, and meticulous feedback gathering. We understand that creating clothes for a variety of sizes can be challenging, but we constantly strive to improve our collections to make them accessible to everyone. Each of us is unique and beautiful, and this is precisely what we strive to foster within our brand.

We're bringing you lots of great summer work looks to share on our Facebook group . Join our community!
