How to choose a men's shirt? After reading the article: How to find high-quality shirts? you already know the first 4 rules for choosing a well-fitted men's shirt. In the second (and final) part, another portion of concrete, professional tips awaits you!
How to choose a men's shirt - length?
If we are buying men's T-shirts, we can afford a bit more slack in choosing their length. There is a bit more "fun" involved with men's shirts, but don't worry, the rules are simple. An elegant shirt for a man must be long. If we decide on a formal, elegant outfit, the men's shirt should be long enough so that after tucking it into trousers and fastening the belt, it does not "come out" of the trousers while walking, sitting, etc. Many people forget about this, but a well-dressed man should always keep it in mind.
If you are interested in a less formal style and want to wear your shirt "untucked," remember that in such a case it cannot be too long. Optimally, it should end between the middle and the end of the fly. If a men's shirt is longer than the end of the fly, it doesn't look the best in a casual outfit.
Fashionable colors and patterns, and the rules of men's elegance
How to choose a men's shirt to fit in with current trends? A well-dressed man should have both elegant shirts and less formal, so-called casual or smart-casual shirts in his wardrobe. How to choose them in terms of patterns and colors?
Let's start with formal or, in other words, business shirts. The basis here is, of course, a white men's shirt. It is universal, timeless, and we will always look good in it. A very interesting and equally elegant alternative is a light blue shirt. One could venture to say that a white and a light blue shirt are the foundation of elegant, business outfits.
A light pink color is also increasingly welcome in formal situations. Some men have slight doubts here, but stylists and the vast majority of women agree: men look very good in such shirts!
Colors of men's shirts that look very good in the case of looser, less formal styles are: navy blue (very good for an evening or party outfit), the previously mentioned light pink, bottle green, and burgundy.
As for patterns – a well-dressed man in formal styles should choose shirts with a delicate pattern, e.g., small dots, fine check, vertical stripes. In the case of looser casual outfits, one can afford larger and more distinct patterns (e.g., a larger check), and even a bit of extravagance if we know how to combine unusual wardrobe elements.
When do we wear a shirt with cufflinks?
Most men's shirts found in stores have sleeves finished with button fastenings, which is a standard solution for less formal occasions. An elegant shirt for a man for occasions such as a wedding or high-level business meetings has cuffs that we fold and fasten using more or less elegant (depending on the situation) cufflinks. Remember that the cuff should protrude from under the jacket sleeve by about 1-2 cm. In everyday situations, an elegant shirt with cufflinks is a bit of a "clash" and is not recommended.
Should you wear an undershirt under a shirt?
You already know what to be guided by when choosing an elegant men's shirt, but an additional question remains – what to wear under the shirt? Let's be clear right away: men's T-shirts and standard men's undershirts are out of the question! If we don't want our skin to show through the shirt, it is worth opting for an undershirt under the shirt in a flesh tone, a so-called invisible undershirt.
Made of good quality material, e.g., micromodal knit, an invisible undershirt does not show through, protects the shirt from sweat and slims the body, while providing you with comfort and convenience. When buying a good quality shirt, it is therefore worth investing additionally in a fitted, invisible undershirt to achieve the effect shown in the photo below:
