When buying new clothes, we all want to keep them looking great and maintain their quality for as long as possible. Unfortunately, with successive washes and everyday wear, the problem of color loss can arise. Faded clothes are definitely not what we want in our wardrobe, which is why today we will address a very important topic regarding the protection of material colors. We will list our home remedies for faded clothes that work perfectly in this regard! Everything is aimed at ensuring your favorite garments last as long as possible. Before we share our tricks for maintaining color intensity, however, we will explain what causes clothes to fade.
Why are faded clothes such a common problem?
The process of color loss from clothing depends on many factors: the type of material or the dyeing technique used in the production process. The general rule is that natural materials usually fade faster than synthetics, and the more vibrant the color of the garment, the more dye was likely used to achieve it. It must be admitted that the latter information is particularly concerning for our skin, as heavy dyeing involves a significant amount of chemicals that are close to our skin while wearing.
But let's return to the situation where faded spots on clothes appear - what should you do? Let's start with prevention! Below you will find several universal tips on how to properly care for clothes to maintain their color depth for a longer time:
- Wash items according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Always read the inner labels where the washing instructions are provided - use the suggested temperature and check the ironing recommendations. This is very important!
- Turn clothes inside out before putting them in the washing machine. This will protect the outer layer of the material.
- If you can (the garment is not heavily soiled, etc.), set the wash program to the shortest one and without strong spin. This will result in less dye being rinsed out.
- IMPORTANT! Do not dry laundry in direct sunlight. Strong sunlight is the number one enemy of material colors.
- Minimize the use of strong bleaches - such products are chlorine-based and are very harsh on fibers. They should usually be used only for white clothes. For other shades, always use stain removers intended for colored fabrics according to the instructions.

How to restore color to faded clothes?
Let's move on to the situation where your clothes are already faded - don't worry, we have ways to deal with that too. There are many home tricks based on products that can be found in every home. One of the most frequently used methods is a mixture of water and salt. Simply soaking clothes in the prepared solution is enough for the color to regain its strength. An alternative solution is also a combination of water and baking soda (in a ratio of 1 tablespoon of soda per 1 liter of liquid) - in this case, soaking for about 10 minutes is sufficient, followed by drying (necessarily in a shaded place).
Another trick is citrus. Here, the reliable method using lemon juice comes to the rescue for faded colors. Pour it into the drum along with the detergent, set the wash program, and watch the results. Acidic lemon juice protects fabric fibers but also helps to regain intense color. We especially recommend this method for light-colored clothes: beige or white.
When it comes to black clothes, we recommend using a natural dye, which is a mixture of walnut leaves or ivy. Both plants have amazing darkening properties that dye clothing perfectly. It is worth adding that this method is completely safe even for delicate materials.
And what about yellow stains? This is also a common scourge... which sour milk will effectively deal with. Soak the garment in milk and then wash it. It should help!
