In 1873, Levi Strauss and his partner patented trousers made of denim, reinforced with seams at wear-prone points. Jeans are an absolute wardrobe staple for every woman and man, thanks to their functionality. Currently, a multitude of styles and colors of jeans are available on the market. To help you further your knowledge, I invite you to check out my practical guide to jeans .

Condition of jeans

There are 4 basic jeans lengths :

  • High-rise is the most versatile because it ends a few centimeters above the navel. It beautifully accentuates the waist and keeps the figure in check, while also visually elongating the legs.
  • The super high rise is a few centimeters longer than the high waist and also perfectly accentuates the female figure. It is particularly popular in paper bag trousers.

PRO TIP! When choosing high-waisted or ultra-high-waisted pants, pay attention to the length of the zipper. A longer zipper will make the jeans look more flattering.
  • Medium rise is a pant length that reaches just below the navel. This style is especially recommended for women with long legs and/or a relatively short torso.
  • Low-rise is a length that reaches the hips. It's past its prime (the 1990s and early 2000s). And that's a good thing, because this style distorts the proportions of the figure and makes visible what we'd rather hide.

Types of jeans

Pockets

Low-set, wide-set jeans pockets will certainly visually widen or shrink your butt. Achieve a butt-lifting effect by choosing jeans with high-set pockets placed just a few centimeters from the center back seam on both sides.

Types of jeans depending on the leg shape

  • slim fit - tapered legs, the pants are not very tight
  • skinny - tapered leg very close to the body
  • bell -bottom trousers - tight-fitting trousers from the hip to the knee, the legs widening from the knee
  • regular/straight - a leg that is the same width along its entire length
  • mom jeans - trousers fitted at the waist, slightly wider around the hips, tapering towards the bottom
  • Boyfriend trousers – trousers inspired by men's clothing, often with a mid-rise. Loose fit, often with holes and fraying.
  • slouchy - loose-fitting, high-waisted trousers, widening around the thighs and tapering towards the bottom
  • baggy - trousers with a loose crotch and straight legs
  • culottes - characterized by a high waist and legs that widen at the hips, ending at mid-calf

Of course, these aren't all the options, as the types of trousers presented above often have their own variations, such as mom fit or boyfriend slim fit. When choosing the right fit for your figure, remember that jeans should be comfortable and make you feel good in them . So, for example, if you don't like to accentuate your wider thighs, choose a looser fit in that area. However, if you're having trouble choosing the right length—you're very short or tall—I recommend checking out special sections in online stores called tall/petite.

PRO TIP! Your silhouette will appear lighter when you reveal your ankles by rolling up your pants. You can do this traditionally, or if your legs are wide, you can further narrow them using the pin roll method – first, roll one side of the leg inward, then roll the bottom edge of the pants up twice.

Colors and abrasions

Dark jeans will certainly make you look slimmer and more elegant than lighter ones . Lighter colors, on the other hand, refresh the look and add a touch of sparkle, making them perfect for spring and summer outfits. Therefore, it's best to have both shades of denim in your wardrobe. Gray jeans can be problematic, as they can, at first glance, look like they were once black pants that have faded over time. Abrasions naturally (due to the lighter shade) catch the eye, but don't worry about them, as they keep the jeans from looking boring.

Good quality jeans

Material composition

Jeans made of 100% cotton will be stiffer (they may feel uncomfortable at first, but soften slightly after wearing for a while) and won't stretch as easily. A minimal amount of elastane (up to 3%) will make them more comfortable and allow for less restriction. A higher amount of elastane can make the jeans too tight, highlighting the areas you don't want to emphasize. After prolonged wear, the jeans may stretch unsightly.

Seams

Above all, the seams should be straight, free of fraying threads. The thicker the seam, the greater the guarantee that the jeans will last. Jeans finished with a selvedge seam are characterized by premium quality. They are made from a bolt of fabric, finished with a ribbon at the end.

Material thickness

The thicker the material, the more durable it is, so it's worth investing in durable denim. This will ensure it lasts a long time. Proper care also affects the condition of your jeans. Washing is the most damaging process, so avoid frequent washing if possible. If you do wash your jeans, use a detergent; it's more gentle. Also, remember that when buying jeans with elastane, they should be well-fitting, as they will break in over time.
