The origins of streetwear date back to the 1980s , when surfers and skaters on the Californian coast began to create their own distinctive, free style – Loose T-shirts, baggy jeans, oversized hoodies, and sneakers dominated . At the same time, a hip-hop-inspired movement was emerging on the streets of New York, and baggy trousers, sneakers, and bomber jackets quickly became its signature style.
In the next decade, i.e. In the 1990s , the first brands were created that gave streetwear the status of an independent fashion trend. Brands such as Stüssy, Supreme, BAPE and Off-White have paved new paths, proving that street style can combine everyday casualness with elements of luxury .
Over time Streetwear has found its way onto the runways of fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga , cementing its status as a fully-fledged high fashion style. Today, it's not just an urban trend but also a form of personal expression and identity statement.
Basic features of streetwear style:
► comfort and functionality – clothes should be comfortable, breathable, not restrictive, suitable for all-day wear and various activities,
► expression and individualism – the styles are meant to show you, not be a copy from a catalogue, so there are no strict rules about “what to do” or “what to avoid”,
► conscious combination of styles – the urban look can be both totally sporty and casual, or a mix of several styles.
Women's urban style – what to pay attention to when building a streetwear wardrobe?
Women's streetwear is no longer the exclusive domain of hip-hop culture. It's a style of clothing that draws inspiration from the streets, but now incorporates sex appeal, details, and unconventional combinations.
Characteristic features:
► loose styles – oversized, baggy, but also fitted elements for contrast so as not to completely lose femininity,
► layering – i.e. a hoodie over a T-shirt, a bomber jacket over a jacket - which makes the styling look more casual and interesting,
► accessories – baseball caps, fanny packs or backpacks, eye-catching sneakers, but also expressive jewelry and handbags in non-standard shapes (usually soft).
Women's streetwear styles
Look a few streetwear-inspired styles that maintain a feminine character, and their components should easily be found (at least partially) in your wardrobe:
First look
It is based on neutral colors, so it will be a good "starter" option to test how you feel in a more urban style. It's a curved lingerie dress with a fitted white T-shirt underneath . Pair it with a baseball cap, jewelry to complete the look, and comfortable, stylish sneakers with a raised sole.
In the second ranking
reigns denim . Cream jeans with a loose leg, a denim jacket, and a baseball cap in a similar shade. This time Beige shoes with a cow print . Despite the animal print detail, you can wear these sneakers in minimalist outfits to add more character and originality. The same goes for the handbag – a woven chocolate brown bag with a soft shape adds a relaxed and unique touch to the outfit.
Third styling
uses an intense pink color in an oversized jacket and a black base. Fourth styling
is a reflection of youthful ease and a preference for comfort. We focus on neutral color tones and we base our design on simplicity - a black top, a funky gray mini skirt, and an oversized vintage biker jacket. Sneakers and long socks are a must. To keep things from getting too sporty, we added a light blue handbag.
💡When wearing long socks, create a delicate ruffle effect on the calf - this will make the sock end lower and the whole look more loose and casual.
The character of the fifth styling
we achieve this thanks to accessories - an expressive choker with visible weaves and black zircons, heavy earrings in the shape of an elongated circle, white sneakers with a raised sole and a green handbag with a soft shape. The base of the outfit is a classic basic : a black top or bodysuit, dark blue high-waisted jeans with loose legs resting on the boots, and a straight-cut, double-breasted gray blazer. To add a more casual touch to the outfit, you can reach for baggy pants .
In the last proposal
For the urban women's look, we used our 👉🏻 Miss Simply lingerie dress as a midi skirt. We paired it with 👉🏻 A short, black Miss Basic sweatshirt visually accentuates the waist. The look is completed with a black handbag, feminine sunglasses, and gold jewelry that complements the sweatshirt's sporty character. To give the whole look a stronger accent, we opted for expressive, colorful sneakers .
