What is jute?

Jute is a material produced from the jute plant, grown in countries with hot and humid climates. The material is composed of 100% jute stem fiber, and the fabric usually has a plain weave. It is available in weights ranging from 125 g/m² to 350 g/m².

Jute fabric - properties

Jute fabric is one of the most durable – it resists stretching and tearing. This strong fiber is difficult to wear and stain. It has good permeability, absorbs easily, and dries quickly. Furthermore, repeated drying and soaking do not affect its durability. It is easy to dye and difficult to bleach. This is why jute fabric is most often available in shades of ecru, gray, and gold.

Although the names sound different, they are essentially the same fiber. It has a particularly wide range of uses in handicrafts. Recently, it has been used in decorative arts. We've probably seen it used more than once for wedding table decorations – for example, as placemats or as a bouquet decoration.

Jute material - use

Jute fabric is widely available, especially in interior design stores. It's a perfect fit for rustic or Scandinavian-style rooms. You can find many pillowcases, baskets, and plant pots made from this material. Jute fabric is also used in many interiors as rugs or mats. This addition can emphasize the atmosphere of a room and give it a touch of rawness. It pairs beautifully with bright colors, greenery (for example, in the form of plants), and wood.

Jute twine is another variant of jute. It's widely used in gardening, agriculture, and as a decorative material. It can be useful for securing packaged products, but one of its most interesting applications is creating your own DIY decorations. By tying various items with this twine, you can create a unique flowerpot or lampshade. Another interesting idea is to create inscriptions by gluing the twine to a surface.

Jute is also available in the form of bags. Many grocery stores sell them as an alternative to plastic bags. These bags, made from natural materials, are significantly more durable, meaning you can not only carry more groceries but also reuse them many times.

Many fashion brands have begun to incorporate this material into their own brands, resulting in beautiful summer baskets and shoulder bags. This minimalist accessory will fit perfectly into any minimalist's wardrobe. It will look great paired with jeans, green, and, of course, white. Classic outfits work best here.
