The wintry weather outside definitely beckons us to snuggle up in a warm sweater. Seemingly easy to style , one of the wardrobe staples, its slightly looser fit can distort body proportions. Trying it on in a dressing room can make us look the same, but there are a few tricks to making it look interesting and stylish . Today, I'll share them with you in this post!
How to choose the right sweater?
Remember – the final and aesthetic appearance of a sweater depends on several factors you should consider when shopping. First, the composition : yarn made from natural raw materials, which we've described in detail in previous posts ( HERE's a link to a post about materials like merino wool, cashmere, and alpaca) and of natural origin (viscose, modal, lyocell) has thermoregulatory properties . These properties mean that the sweater warms without overheating the body. It also has a high hygroscopicity (moisture absorption), making it comfortable, functional, and pleasant to the touch. Most popular sweaters made with acrylic, polyacrylic, or polyester lack these properties, meaning the sweater won't keep you warm or allow your skin to breathe properly, which can result in sweaty sweat.

Secondly, the style: everyone has different body proportions, and different things suit each of us. For example, a larger bust will look better in a V-neck . A woman with smaller busts, on the other hand, will look great in a turtleneck sweater. Furthermore, a sweater style with a thick cable knit, shiny thread, a scoop neckline, ruffles, and similar features always "makes" the entire outfit. When choosing such styles, we don't have to worry too much about accessories – the embellished sweater should be the centerpiece of the outfit.
How to style a sweater?
- Tuck the end of your sweater into the bottom of your wardrobe to visually lengthen your legs and accentuate your waist.
- Add some sparkles to give your sweater a bit of an elegant and feminine touch.
- Roll up your sleeves , revealing slim wrists , to add lightness to a silhouette that can be overwhelmed by a large sweater.
- For a slightly longer sweater or a sweater with a scaled shape, add a belt at the waist to balance out the feminine proportions.
- Combine sweaters with other textures , for example by combining a sweater with a flowing skirt, leather pants or smooth and elegant fabrics, you will surely achieve an amazing effect.
- When wearing oversized sweaters, don't forget to accentuate your legs with fitted styles to balance out your figure proportions.

A recipe for successful sweater styling
Elegant and semi-formal styles
A sweater is definitely not elegant, so it should be paired with typically formal wardrobe items like cigarette pants, a pencil skirt, a pleated skirt, a long vest, or a blazer. For a more elegant look, you'll also need accessories like heels/pumps/ankle boots/sneakers, jewelry, a watch, a stylish bag, or a belt with a decorative buckle. Throw on a classic coat over the top and… the look is complete !

Casual styles
To keep your everyday look from getting boring, pair your sweater with interestingly cut jeans (slouchy, mom jeans, boyfriend jeans), stylish sneakers, or ankle boots (e.g., with thick soles or studs). You can top it off with a puffer jacket, a fanny pack, and a pom-pom hat. Don't forget that our nude, sheer T-shirts and tops make a great base for any sweater.
As you can see, even a simple sweater can be stylish. It's an undeniable must-have in every woman's wardrobe due to its versatility and functionality. Try new combinations and solutions in your wardrobe – a sweater will be perfect for the January frosts !
